"Clunkers" Redeemed

Since the inception of the U.S. Government based Car Allowance Rebate System (C.A.R.S.), informally called “Cash for Clunkers,” it was estimated earlier this week that more than $775 million of the original $1 billion has been spent.  All of this in less than two weeks!  Nearly 185,000 “clunkers” have been traded in for new, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Because of the popularity of the program, along with hopes of stimulating the economy and helping the environment, Congress has now refueled the incentive program with an additional $2 billion.  The program is now extended to Labor Day and it is hoped that it will prompt the sale of another 500,000 new vehicles, while getting the same number of “clunkers” off the roads and highways.

Under the program, passenger car owners are given cash incentives to trade in their gas-guzzling cars for more fuel-efficient vehicles.  The greater the difference in the gas mileage of the “clunker” and the gas mileage of the new vehicle, the greater the incentive – up to $4,500!

However, there is an even GREATER redemption plan available…

Because of our sins, OUR LIVES become devalued, deteriorated, and destined for destruction (Romans 6:23; Matthew 7:13-14).

BUT, God LOVES you and me!  He loves us so much that He wants to REDEEM us from sin.  The price for our redemption, however, is so great that it cannot be calculated in dollar amounts.  All of the money in the world cannot secure our redemption.

But God paid the price for our redemption.  It cost the life of His Son, Jesus Christ.  Jesus, the sinless Son of God, died on the cross for OUR sins to redeem us from sin.  The Apostle Peter reminded some Christians of that tremendous ransom that was paid:

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect(1 Pet 1:18-19)

To be covered in this wonderful plan of Redemption, we must: believe and trust in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from our sins in  repentance (Acts 17:30-31), confess Him before men (Romans 10:9-10), and be baptized (immersed) in His name for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38).

In HIM we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace(Ephesians 1:7).

Sin renders US “CLUNKERS,” but God doesn’t consider us to be JUNK!

He loves us and wants to REDEEM us to make our lives useful, beautiful, and lasting (for eternity)!  And He will, IF we surrender our lives to Him on His terms.

Won’t YOU?
