Joe the Plumber

Samuel J. Wurzelbacher has become an instant media celebrity.  From relative obscurity to overnight fame, John McCain first dubbed him “Joe the Plumber” in his debate last Wednesday night with Barack Obama.  Then “Joe the Plumber” was mentioned no less than 13 times as McCain and Obama discussed how their proposed tax plans would affect the plumber financially in his desire to buy the business that currently employs him.

Since the debate, Joe the Plumber has faced numerous reporters outside his home near Toledo, Ohio, and has gained national attention in subsequent interviews.  His prominence began when a conversation between him and Obama was taped and aired on television and the internet.

Joe the Plumber said he feels a little overwhelmed by all the attention he has received.

McCain and Obama are not the only ones interested in Joe the Plumber.  There is Someone else who cares about Joe the Plumber, and Gina the teacher, and Terry the accountant, and Chris the computer programmer, and everyone else, including YOU!

God loves Joe the Plumber… and YOU!  "For God so loved the world (EVERYONE in the world) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Christ died for Joe the Plumber… and YOU!  By the grace of God, He died for the sins of the world (Hebrews 2:9; 1 John 2:2).  His death was the only acceptable payment to redeem lost humanity (Ephesians 1:7).

God wants Joe the Plumber – and YOU – to become His children!  Because of Jesus’ sacrificial death, you and I can be born again into God’s family (John 3:3,5).  When we believe in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), turn from our sins in repentance (Acts 17:30-31), confess Jesus before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are baptized (immersed) in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38), we are born again into God’s family.

Joe the Plumber’s rise from being relatively unknown to becoming a celebrity pales in comparison to the transition – available through Jesus Christ – from a lost sinner to
a child of the King!

Won’t YOU become His child today through your trusting obedience?
