The Master Engineer Charles Proteus Steinmetz (1865-1923) was a dwarf and physically deformed (a diminutive hunchback), but he had one of the greatest minds in the field of electricity that the world has ever known. He immigrated to the United States in 1889 as a political refugee from Germany and was hired by the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York. As an engineer, Steinmetz designed the massive turbine generators used by GE and eventually retired to teach electrical engineering at that city's Union College in 1902. One day without warning, those generators broke down and the plant quickly ground to a halt. General Electric went dark! The plant manager brought in ordinary mechanics and technicians who could not get the generators going again. One mechanic after another was unable to locate the problem, much to their frustration. GE was losing money with each passing hour!! Then they called in Steinmetz. The electrical wizard came to the plant, puttered around for a few hours, and then threw the switch. The lights blinked on, the turbines began to whirl, and the General Electric plant was back in operation. A
few days later, GE received a bill from Steinmetz for
$10,000. The managers at GE were taken
back! They
felt the bill was excessive for the amount of work
that he had done.
They returned the bill with a note; Steinmetz
returned the corrected bill to GE. This time it read: GE paid the bill! You and I can learn a lot about life from Steinmetz and GE. You and I have been plunged into darkness because of SIN (Romans 3:23). We find ourselves in the same predicament as those mechanics and technicians that could not get the turbine generators running. Try as we may, we cannot get OUR lives running properly. This only leads to frustration, confusion and pain. But
God did NOT leave us in the dark!
He sent the BEST! Only the Master Engineer - Jesus Christ - can generate
the truly abundant life in us.
He knows where the problem is -- He holds
the blueprint!
He went to the CROSS to take care of the
problem (sin). He
died on the cross for our sins so that we might live
through Him Christ
provides the abundant life now and eternal life to
come to those who: place their faith
in Him (Hebrews 11:6), repent
of their sins (2 Corinthians 7:10), confess
that Jesus is the Son of God (Romans 10:9-10), are baptized
(immersed) into Christ in order to have their
sins washed away (Acts 22:16) AND stay
"connected" The
price of regeneration came at tremendous
cost!
