Lost
In The Dark
Under
a streetlight on a very dark night was a man looking
for a set of lost keys.
A policeman came by and inquired about the object of
his search. He
joined the search and the two searched diligently for
quite some time. Finally the officer asked, "Are
you sure you lost them here?" "Oh,
no," said the man pausing for a moment.
As he pointed out into the darkness, he said, "I
lost the keys somewhere over there."
"Then WHY are you looking for them over
here?" the officer asked.....
"Because THIS is where the light
is!" he replied.
This
comical story illustrates a tremendous truth: Instead
of seeking the counsel of God, modern-day "free
thinkers" INSIST on using human wisdom ALONE for
answers to eternal questions.
The
problem is that the “light” of human
knowledge ALONE is NOT sufficient to find
the “keys”
to the most important questions of life.
Jeremiah the prophet lamented:
"O LORD, I know the way of man is NOT in himself;
It is not in man who walks to direct his own
steps" (Jeremiah 10:23).
The wise man Solomon wrote: "There is a
way that SEEMS right to a man, but its
end is the way of death" (Proverbs 14:12; 16:25).
However,
God has shed “light” on the subject.
Through His Word He has revealed
to us HOW-we got here (Genesis 1-2), WHY-we
are here (1 Corinthians 8:6), and WHERE-we are
going (Matthew 7:13-14).
He has ALSO revealed the nature of our greatest
problem: SIN
(Romans 3:23) and how we may find forgiveness of sin
through the gospel (the “good news”) of His Son,
Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16).
Without the “light” of His word, we would
continue groping in the darkness and NEVER find the
“keys” to life.
Jesus
told one of His apostles, Peter, that He would give to
him the “keys”
of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:19).
These “keys” open the door to
salvation
from our greatest problem AND to eternal life with
God. Peter
revealed these “keys”
on the Day
of Pentecost (a Jewish feast) after the death,
burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.
In
answer to the question “What must we do to be
saved from our sins?”
Peter instructed THOSE who THEN BELIEVED that
Jesus Christ was (is) the Son of God to: "Repent,
and let every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts
2:38).
Many in the audience – around 3,000 people – used
the “keys”
and found
the DOOR to forgiveness and hope (Acts 2:41).
They continued steadfastly in the instruction
of Jesus’ apostles (Acts 2:42) which ultimately
leads to an eternal reward (Romans 2:7).
These
“keys”
are STILL available for YOU
today!
Are
you tired of searching for the “keys”
to life in the DARK?
Look to the
LIGHT
of God’s Word!
God
bless you!
