Lost!
Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts offers a
variety of activities for families to enjoy. One of
those activities is walking through a seven-acre corn
maze that has pathways totaling seven-miles long and
can take up to an hour to navigate.
One
family didn’t find the corn maze very enjoyable...
On
Columbus Day, a family of four – including a father,
mother, and two children (one of which was only
three-weeks-old) – visited the farm and tried to
navigate their way through the corn maze. They were
still trying to find their way through the maze when
the sun set. The darkness only made things worse. So
they called 911 (the police) for help!
“Hi,
I just called. I’m still stuck at Connor’s Farms. I
don’t see anybody. I’m really scared, it’s really
dark, and we’ve got a three-week-old baby with us,”
the woman is heard on police tapes telling the
dispatcher.
A
police officer and his dog responded to the call for
help, and accompanied by a farm manager, began
searching through the maze to find the lost family.
It took about 10 minutes to find the family. When
they were found, it was discovered that they were only
25 feet from the street!
This
family’s troubling experiences teach us something
about our own condition…
Because of our sins, we are lost
(Romans 3:23; 6:23)! We cannot
find our way out of sin’s “maze” – its misery and its
condemnation – on our own. We need help! The prophet
Jeremiah expressed this malady saying, “O LORD, I know
the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who
walks to direct his own steps” (10:23).
But because of His great love, God has
provided a way out of sin’s maze!
He has given us His Word with instructions as to how
to escape the snare and punishment of sin. The
Psalmist proclaimed, “Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path” (119:105). Through the
“light” of God’s Word, the way out of sin and darkness
is revealed.
God’s Word reveals that JESUS is the
Way out of sin and darkness.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the
world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness,
but have the light of life” (John 8:12). Jesus paid
the price for our sins – freeing us from the darkness
and destruction of sin – when He died on the cross
(Ephesians 1:7). HE is the Way to salvation and
eternal life (John 14:6).
Jesus will save those who place their
faith and trust in Him (Acts 16:30-31), turn away from
sin and to Him in
repentance (Acts 17:30-31),
confess
Him before men (Romans 10:9-10), and are
baptized (immersed) in His name for the forgiveness of sins
(Acts 2:38; 22:16).
We need to heed Jesus’ admonition: “Walk while you
have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man
who walks in the dark does not know where he is going.
Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that
you may become sons of light” (John 12:35-36).
Won’t YOU follow the
Light and be saved?
