My Task
What
is the purpose of my life?
What task shall I fulfill?
These are some of the basic, fundamental
questions of life, and they need to be answered
correctly.
Observe
carefully the reflections of a dear lady upon her 90th
birthday:
The calendar and my mirror
talk to me.
They say, “You are 90 years old today.”
Surely they lie!
Why should I be so blest
To have outlived all the rest?
Perhaps for me God had a task.
“To this have I proved faithful?” I ask.
Fear and anxiety take hold,
When the many failures I behold.
The longsuffering of God is a wondrous thing.
I’m still on time’s side, my offering to bring.
Henceforth, through faith in
Jesus’ holy name,
Fulfilling that task shall be my aim.

What
is MY task? Observe
carefully the conclusion of a king…
King
Solomon wrote the end of the book of Ecclesiastes
while an old man.
He had searched for true happiness and
fulfillment in everything that the world had to offer.
He ended the book with his final conclusion: "Let
us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God
and keep His commandments, For this is the whole duty
of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV).
The word “duty” is not in the
original language, so a literal translation of his
words would be: "For this is the WHOLE of
man" or “This is what makes man whole":
“Fear God and keep His commandments.”
Solomon also stated another important
reason for his conclusion: “For God will bring
every work into judgment, including EVERY SECRET
THING, whether it is GOOD or whether it is EVIL”
(Ecclesiastes 12:14).
God,
Who gave us life, also revealed to us the MEANING of
life.
Jesus
Christ, the Son of God, said, “I have
come that they may have LIFE, and that they may have it
more abundantly” (John 10:10).
God has revealed that
the abundant life AND eternal life to come are found
in a right relationship with God through His Son
Jesus.
Though
“fear and anxiety take hold when the many
failures we behold” in
our OWN lives, we find in the Scriptures that a
Solution has been provided!
Jesus Christ died for our sins (1 John 4:9-10)
that we might be forgiven and live for Him.
If we will believe
in Him (Acts 16:30-31), turn from our sins in repentance
(Acts 17:30-31), confess
Him (Romans 10:9-10), and be baptized
(immersed) in His name for the forgiveness of our sins
(Acts 2:38; 22:16), then He will forgive us of our
past sins. Then,
to follow Him for the rest of our lives – this is
OUR God-given task.
Have
YOU been fulfilling
God’s task for your life?
In
loving memory of my grandmother, Mary Louise Cowan
Dixon, affectionately known to me and the rest of her
family as “Nanny.”
God bless you!
