Pure Water

Some time ago I saw a travelogue on television concerning a group of explorers who were searching in Africa for a vanishing tribe. In the course of their travels they came across some natives who for centuries had made their home on the banks of a particular river. They did not find this unusual until they observed the pollution in the stream.  The river was filled with every contamination imaginable. The natives had developed a method of swishing over the top of the water to move the bigger debris out of the way before scooping up some water to drink.

One of the explorers took his canteen and poured out a large cup of crystal-clear water (that he had brought with him) and handed it to one of the aged women of the tribe. She took the cup, pressed it to her lips, and didn’t put it down until she had emptied the cup. Then through an interpreter she said that she had never dreamed that there was anything in this world as sweet and wonderful as that water.

Spiritually speaking, this is much like our world – a world without Christ!

Many drink from polluted streams of materialism and worldliness - just swishing the "chunks" out of the way because they have never known anything better. *

However, Jesus offers the "crystal clear waters"  of salvation from the defilement of the world.  Jesus said, "Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:14).  The water that brings everlasting life is available to ALL who will drink of it through faith in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31), repentance (Acts 17:30-31), confessing Christ (Romans 10:9-10), and being baptized (immersed) for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38).

One must continue to "drink"  from the fountain of pure water by: following after Jesus and avoid being entangled in the pollutions of this world (2 Peter 2:20-21). Jesus said, "If ANYONE thirsts, let him come to Me and drink" (John 7:37).

Have YOU drank from the fountain of Pure Water?

God bless you,
