Sailing
Ships
When
sailing ships leave port to embark on a journey,
sailors must determine three things, according to the
late C.S. Lewis.* These
three things are ALSO crucial factors in determining
how WE live our lives:
Sailors must know...
how to keep from
bumping into one another
on long voyages. This
is a question of "social ethics." In other
words, how do we get along with one another on
this journey called life?
Sailors must
know... how to maintain the individual ships to
ensure that they
remain seaworthy. This is "personal ethics,"
and it deals with the individual's vices and
virtues - with character.
And finally...
Sailors
must know...
where the ships are going! What is their mission
and their destination? This
last question is the crucial one for us. What
is the purpose of human life? Why are we here?
The
Bible reveals not only the IDENTITY of our
Creator but also the
PURPOSE for our existence:
“There is ONE GOD,
the Father, of whom are all things, and WE
FOR HIM; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through
whom are all things, and through whom we live”
(1 Corinthians 8:6).
ALL
things are "FROM"
God
and "FOR"
God! We were created BY
Him - FOR Him!
The purpose of OUR existence is to live for, to
glorify, to worship -- God.
In order to find life’s TRUE meaning AND
to reach our intended destination,
we must realize the TRUE purpose of life.
It
is the will of God... that each of us live our
lives for Him, trusting and obeying Him as our
life’s purpose. Through His Son, Jesus, God has
provided the needed instruction and the means of
setting our course in the right direction.
This course is one of faith
(Hebrews 11:6), repentance
from sin (Acts 17:30-31), confession
of faith (Romans 10:9-10), baptism
for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38), AND
a life of faithfulness in following HIS course
(Revelation 2:10).
Your
ship has already sailed!
Are YOU following
the right course?
God bless you.
